Why quotes differ by a factor of three
The word implant covers four separate things you are buying: the fixture placed in the bone, the abutment connecting it, the crown on top, and the imaging and planning around them. A quote can include all four or only the first, and the number will not look obviously different either way.
This is the single most useful question to ask: does this figure include the abutment and the crown? A ₹18,000 implant is very often the fixture alone, with the crown quoted separately once you are already committed.
What sets your number
The implant system. Established brands with decades of published survival data and guaranteed global component supply cost more than budget systems. The reason to care is not prestige: if a component fails in eight years, a compatible abutment needs to still exist and be available in India.
The crown material. Metal-ceramic is cheaper and shows a dark line as gums recede. Zirconia costs more and does not. On a molar this is cosmetically irrelevant; on a front tooth it is the whole point.
Your bone. The longer a tooth has been missing, the more bone has resorbed. Grafting or a sinus lift adds cost and healing time, and it can only be assessed from a CBCT scan. This is the commonest reason a real quote exceeds a phone quote.
How many implants. Replacing several adjacent teeth does not need one implant per tooth. Two well-placed implants carry a three-unit bridge, and a full arch is routinely restored on four to six. Per-tooth cost falls sharply as the count rises.
What a quote should contain before you compare it
The implant system by brand name. The crown material. Whether the abutment is included. Whether a CBCT has been taken and what it showed about bone volume. Whether grafting is anticipated and at what cost. The number of appointments and over what period.
A quote missing those cannot be compared with another quote, because you do not know whether the two describe the same treatment. This is where most of the confusion in implant pricing lives, and it is entirely resolvable by asking.
Is it worth it against a bridge
A three-unit bridge costs ₹12,000 to ₹50,000 and is finished in two to three weeks, against ₹25,000 to ₹60,000 and three to six months for an implant. The bridge is cheaper and faster.
It also requires cutting down two healthy teeth, and does nothing to stop bone resorbing at the gap. Over a fifteen-year horizon, where a bridge is typically replaced once and each replacement removes more tooth structure, the totals often converge. Where the neighbouring teeth already need crowns, the argument for the implant weakens considerably and a bridge becomes genuinely reasonable.
Common questions
What is the cheapest dental implant in Lucknow?
Fixtures start around ₹18,000, but that figure almost always excludes the crown, which adds ₹8,000 to ₹20,000. The cheapest complete single implant is therefore realistically ₹25,000 to ₹30,000. Below that, ask specifically what is excluded and which implant system is being used.
Why did my quote go up after the scan?
Almost always because the CBCT showed insufficient bone width or height, so grafting or a sinus lift is needed. This is the normal reason and it is legitimate. It is also why a quote given before any imaging is an estimate rather than a quotation.
Is a dental implant covered by insurance in India?
Usually not. Most Indian health policies exclude dental treatment unless it follows an accident or is medically necessary as part of a covered hospitalisation. An implant replacing a tooth lost to decay is typically excluded. Check your specific policy wording rather than assuming either way.
Can I pay for implants in instalments?
Most Lucknow clinics can structure payment across the treatment stages, which naturally spread over three to six months anyway. Ask at the consultation rather than assuming it is not available.
