What the technique actually is
It is a full-arch technique commonly called All-on-4, the sort of work described under full mouth rehabilitation. Four implants are placed in one jaw, two near the front pointing straight down and two further back, tilted. The tilt lets the back implants be longer and sit in denser bone, which in some jaws avoids a bone graft or sinus lift.
A single fixed bridge covering the whole arch, often twelve teeth, is then screwed onto those four implants. Because it is fixed, you do not take it out at night, unlike a denture. Variants use five or six implants where the bone or the bite calls for it, and the prices on the implant cost page are for four to six.
Who it is for
It suits someone with no teeth in a jaw, or with teeth that are failing and cannot be saved (for example from advanced gum disease), who wants a fixed result rather than a removable denture. It is worth a look if a lower denture will not stay put and the person wants something firmer than an implant-supported denture.
It needs enough bone, particularly at the front of the jaw, and a good general health picture. Smoking, uncontrolled diabetes, active gum disease and heavy night-time grinding all lower the odds of success and should be dealt with first.
It is not the answer for one or two missing teeth, where a single implant or an implant bridge is simpler. See dental implants vs dentures for how fixed and removable options compare.
How the treatment runs
A CBCT scan and impressions or a digital scan come first. Teeth that cannot be kept are removed, the implants are placed, and a temporary fixed bridge is often fitted soon after, sometimes the same day when the bone grips well. Chewing is restricted and the diet is soft for weeks.
After the bone has bonded, usually three to six months later, the final bridge is made. Materials range from an acrylic-and-metal hybrid to a full zirconia bridge, which is a main reason prices span a wide range.
The trade-offs to hear before you decide
It is a large, mostly irreversible step: the teeth removed are gone, and you are committing the jaw to four implants that must all do their job. If one fails, the others usually carry on, but the bridge may need modification.
The fixed bridge needs careful cleaning underneath, with interdental brushes or a water flosser, and regular maintenance visits. Acrylic parts wear and chip and need repair or replacement over the years. Speech can feel different for a few weeks.
In Lucknow in 2026, a full arch on four to six implants runs ₹2,00,000 to ₹6,00,000, driven by implant count and the type of bridge. Ask for a written, itemised plan, including what a repair or replacement of the bridge would cost later.
Common questions
Is All-on-4 a trademarked name?
The name is widely used as a general label for a full-arch technique on four implants, though it may also be a protected brand name. Other terms are four-implant fixed bridge or full-arch fixed teeth. Ask any clinic which implant system and plan it is actually proposing.
Can I get All-on-4 if I have bone loss?
Sometimes. The tilted back implants can use the available bone without grafting in some jaws, but the front of the jaw still needs enough bone. A CBCT scan settles the question. If bone is very limited, a graft or a different plan may be needed.
Can you eat normally with All-on-4?
Soft food is needed for the first weeks while the bone bonds. After that, most people chew far better than with a denture, though very hard foods can chip acrylic teeth. Chewing never feels identical to natural teeth.
How long does an All-on-4 bridge last?
The implants can last for decades with good cleaning and maintenance, but the bridge itself is a wearing part. Acrylic teeth often need repair or replacement within years, while zirconia lasts longer but is costlier. It depends on your bite and care.
Is All-on-4 better than dentures?
It is more stable and more comfortable for most people, and it does not rest on the gums. It also costs much more and needs surgery. Dentures remain a sound choice for some, and overdentures are a middle route.
